Verrius Flaccus, Marcus (Roman scholar, 1st century BCE)

Note: Roman freedman who later became a well-known scholar and grammarian. He introduced the concept of competition between his pupils, and awarded rare books as prizes. He is known to have invented a fasti (a type of calender) and a lexicon in which Latin authors were quoted extensively. All his works are lost. |
