Abstraction-Création (International group of artists, active 1931-1936 in Paris)
|
Note: Artists' group active in Paris from 1932-1936. This group grew from an earlier one founded in 1929: Cercle et Carré. The founding members of Abstraction-Création were Auguste Herbin, Georges Vantongerloo, Hans Arp, Albert Gleizes, Jean Hélion, Georges Valmier and František Kupka. The group focussed on non-representational abstract art, particularly geometric compositions derived from the work of Theo van Doesburg and De Stijl. Annual cahiers were published with reproductions of artwork and statements by members from throughout Europe. |
