Bertaux, Héléna (French sculptor, 1825-1909)
|
Note: Hébert was a regular Salon exhibitor and she was involved in many architectural decorative schemes including the Paris Opéra and the rebuilt Hôtel de Ville, where she contributed a statue of Jean-Siméon Chardin (1881). She was very involved in campaigning for the rights of women artists: in 1881 she founded the Union des Femmes Peintres-Sculpteurs-Graveurs, Décorateurs and became its first president; she also sought the admission of women to the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and to the Prix de Rome competition. She was the wife of the painter Léon Bertaux. |
