Oh Ilyeong (Korean painter and calligrapher, 1890-1960)
|
Note: Oh Ilyeong was a calligrapher and painter active in the modern and contemporary eras. Oh learned traditional painting techniques from An Jungsik and Jo Seokjin at the School of Calligraphy and Painting (Seohwa misulwon) and was its first graduate. In the early years of his career, he adopted the standardized themes that were popular at the end of the Joseon period and in the modern era, and produced a vast body of bright color paintings reflecting the styles of An Jungsik and Jo Seokjin. In his later years, however, he focused on painting the four plants collectively known as the Four Gentlemen. |
