Cavalcanti, Emiliano di (Brazilian painter and draftsman, 1897-1976)

Note: Important painter linked to the Modernist Movement, he acted as idealizer and organizer of the Semana de Arte Moderna of 1922. He moved to São Paulo in 1917 where he met Mário e Oswald de Andrade. He started his career as an illustrator for the Revista FonFon. Between 1923 and 1926, he lived in Paris, attending the Académie Ranson, held exhibitions and met personalities of the Parisian art scene. In 1926, he came back to Brazil and entered the Communist Party. In 1932, he founded the Clube dos Artistas Paulistas. In 1951, he was invited to take part of the São Paulo 1st Biennial, and, in the second edition, he was awarded as best national painter.

Portuguese ..... Importante pintor ligado ao Movimento Modernista, atuou como idealizador e organizador da Semana de Arte Moderna de 1922. Muda-se para São Paulo em 1917 e conhece Mário e Oswald de Andrade. Começou sua carreira artística como ilustrador da Revista FonFon. Entre os anos de 1923 e 1926 vive em Paris, onde frequenta a Académie Ranson, realiza exposições e convive com grandes nomes do meio artístico parisiense. Em 1926 retorna ao Brasil e ingressa no Partido Comunista. Em 1932 funde o Clube dos Artistas Paulistas. Em 1951 é convidado a participar da Ia Bienal de São Paulo e, na edição seguinte, recebe a láurea de melhor pintor nacional.
