Saché, John Edward (German photographer, 1824-1882, active in the United States and India)
|
Note: While there is still some academic dispute regarding his nationality, it is widely believed that he was born John Edvardt Sachert in Prussia. By the late 1850s - early 1860s, he was working in Philadelphia in the studio partnership of "Saché and Walker," after having changed his name. In 1865, Saché was in partnership with another photographer named Westfield in India. They photographed the Andaman Islands and Calcutta. In 1868, the partnership of Saché and Westfield was dissolved and Saché opened an independent studio in Nanital, India. Saché operated a commercial photography firm in India in the 1870s and 1880s. Saché collaborated with Colin Murray and some photographs are signed "Saché & Murray", but the dates of the collaboration are unknown. It is also unknown if Murray ever officially joined Saché in business. |
