Note: American businessman; he was born in Long Branch, New Jersey on July 4, 1813. In 1834 Cook moved to Chicago, where he became a wealthy businessman. He served as Cook County sheriff from 1846-1850 and U.S. Postmaster at Chicago from 1852-1860. In 1862, he moved to St. Louis, where he became president of the American Wine Company. His son was Isaac Cook Jr.
