Pyne, Benjamin (English goldsmith, 1648-1732)
|
Note: Son of Humfry Pyne of St Mary Ottery in the County Devon. He was apprenticed to George Bowers in 1667 for eight years. The unusual mark of a single letter P under a crown is attributed to him. He ran a large workshop, and it is likely that he employed Huguenot journeymen as plateworkers. Benjamin Pyne, was a regular supplier of Catholic plate. He had a son of the same name who also was a goldsmith. |
