Adriano (Spanish painter, died 1630)
|
Note: After completing his studies, Adriano, a student of Pablo de Céspedes, joined the order of Discalced Carmelites but contined to practise his art. Francisco Pacheco, who knew Adriano, praised him as a great master, while Juan Bernabé Palomino reported that his monastery possessed a head of the Virgin worthy of Titian. Passionate about his art, Adriano never felt that he had been able to fulfil his dreams with his brushes. As soon as a painting was completed, he would wipe the canvas clean. Friends managed to rescue a few but these are extremely rare. Comment on works: landscapes |
