Barros, Geraldo de (Brazilian painter and photographer, 1923-1998)
|
Note: Studied drawing and painting, from 1945 onwards, in the studios of Clóvis Graciano (1907 - 1988), Yoshiya Takaoka (1909 - 1978) and Colette Pujol (1913 - 1999). In 1947, he became one of the founders of the Grupo 15 [Group 15], a studio in the centre of the city where he built a photographic laboratory. In the same year, he joined the Foto Cine Clube Bandeirante [Bandeirante photographic and cinema club], the main centre for modern Brazilian photography. In 1948, through the critic, Mário Pedrosa (1900 - 1981), he became familiar with the Gestalttheorie [Theory of Form]. In 1949, with Thomaz Farkas (1924), he created the laboratory and photography courses of the Museu de Arte de São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand - Masp [Assis Chateaubriand Museum of Art of São Paulo]. Between 1951 and 1952 he made a study trip to Europe. When he returns to São Paulo he founded the Grupo Ruptura. |
