Kertess, Klaus (American curator, writer, and art dealer, 1940-2016)
|
Note: Kertess studied art history at Yale. He founded the Bykert gallery with Jeff Byers in 1966, which became an important venue for post-minimalist artists including Chuck Close and Brice Marden. Kertess later became a curator at the Parrish Art Museum in Southampton, 1983 until 1989, then became adjunct curator of drawing at the Whitney. Kertess acted as curator of the 1995 Whitney Biennial and organized the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit’s inaugural exhibition in 2007. He authored many monographs and wrote for Artforum and Art in America. In 2011, his collected writings,"Seen, Written" were published. |
