Oh Gyeongseok (Korean painter and calligrapher, 1831-1879)
|
Note: Oh Gyeongseok was a calligrapher, painter, epigraphist, and collector of calligraphy and painting active in the late Joseon period. He often produced ink-and-wash paintings in a composed literati painting style. When producing paintings for wishing for a long life, he used brilliant colors in the blue-and-green landscape painting style. Oh created important data for later research by collecting inscriptions engraved on stone and metal materials found in China and Korea and performing historical research on these materials. Through the connections that he made in China while working as an interpreter, he collected books, calligraphic works, paintings, and inscriptions and housed them at his storehouse Cheonjukjae. |
