Note: Possibly born in Kleve. Joos van Cleve is considered one of the most important and influential artists working in Antwerp in the early 16th century. He was particularly known for his images of the Virgin and Child and the Holy Family although he painted a wide range of subjects reflecting the social, artistic and mercantile aspects of the city of Antwerp.
