Innocent I, Pope (Roman pope, died 417)
|
Note: According to the "Liber Pontificalis" he was a native of Albano and his father was called Innocentius; however, Jerome referred to him as the son of the previous pope, Anastasius I. His papacy is noted for having condemned Pelagianism, a heresy concerning the role of grace and free will. He was buried in a basilica above the catacomb of Pontianus; he was venerated as a saint. |
