Record Type: Person
Krejcar, Jaromír (Czech architect and educator, 1895-1949)

Note: Studied under Kotěra at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts 1918-1921, then worked in the studio of Josef Gočár from 1921 to 1923. Joined the Devětsil group in 1921, the Association of Architects in 1923, and the Left Front in 1929. He was member of the Czech section of CIAM in 1930. He is considered one of the most important figures of the avant garde and leader of the architectural contingent of Devětsil. His authority with his colleagues was reinforced by his friendship with Karel Teige, whose house he reconstructed in 1927-1928. His first projects were inspired by the pre-constructivist work of Kotěra, but he converted rapidly to functionalism. His best known work may be the Machnac Sanatorium in Slovakia (1930-1935). Czechoslovakian architect.
