Yang Saeon (Korean calligrapher and government official, 1517-1584)
|
Note: Yang Saeon was a calligrapher and civil official in the early to mid- Joseon Dynasty. His interest in Buddhism and Daoist thinking led him to interact with monks such as Hyujeong (1520-1604). He also shared a deep relationship with the noted calligrapher Heo Yeop (1517-1580). He traveled to scenic spots across the country and engraved inscriptions in square blocks on rocks. Moreover, he wrote about his impressions from his travels in large cursive script. His writing displays a considerable vigor, and he influenced later generations including his son, the calligrapher Yang Mango (1574-1654), as well as the seventeenth-century master of cursive script Yun Sungeo (1596-1668). |
