Pirckheimer, Willibald (German humanist and writer, 1470-1530)
|
Note: Pirckheimer, his father also a humanist, took an interest in art and antiquities at a young age. He served continuously on the Nuremburg council from 1496-1523, and in that town played host to a number of historians and artists. In the early 16th century, Pirckheimer befriended Albrecht Dürer, and they collaborated on a number of projects. Dürer also executed several portraits of Pirckheimer, from 1503-1523. Pirckheimer's written works include a Latin translation of Horapollon's "Heiroglyphika", and one of the first essays on numismatics. |
