Note: Son of a successful tanner and exporter in Waterford. Became a leading so-called "merchant prince" and aristocrat of Cork, Ireland. Patron of artists and collector whose acquisitions are now housed in the Cooper Penrose Collection. Subject of portraits, including by Jacques-Louis David. |
