Yi Gyeongseung (Korean painter, 1862-1927)
|
Note: Yi Gyeongseung was a painter active in the modern era. He was an uncle of the modern-era painter Yi Doyeong (1884-1933). Mainly active in the 1910s and 1920s, Yi Gyeongseung was celebrated for his paintings of butterflies. His precise technique earned him a reputation as the top butterfly painter after Nam Gyeu (1811-1890). Butterfly paintings by Yi were so popular that many of them were sold at calligraphy and painting markets. |
