Vakataka dynasty (Indian dynasty, active mid 3rd - late 7th centuries CE)

Note: Indian dynasty, originating in central Deccan in the mid-3rd century CE, founded by Vindhyashakti (c. 250–270 CE). When his son Pravarasena I, came to the throne in ca. 270 CE, Vakataka territory was expanded to the Narmada River with the annexation the kingdom of Purika. The dynasty disappeared by the late 7th century. Some of the Ajanta caves were executed during their reign.
