Yi Gyeho (Korean painter, 1574-after 1645)
|
Note: Yi Gyeho was a literati painter of the mid-Joseon period famous for grape paintings. While following in the mid-Joseon grape painting style of Hwang Jipjung (1533-after 1593), a leading figure in grape painting, Yi achieved individualistic expressions emphasizing the concept of sketching ideas. Unlike Hwang, who highlighted the stems and vines of grapes, Yi stressed the abundance of grape leaves. His grape painting style was passed down to late-Joseon artists including Choe Seokhwan (1808-?). |
