Imhotep (Ancient Egyptian official and architect, flourished 27th century BCE)
|
Note: He was a vizier, sage, architect, astrologer, healer, and chief minister to king Djoser (reigned ca. 2630-ca. 2611 BCE). He is traditionally considered the designer of the first temple of Edfu, on the upper Nile. He is held to be the architect of the step pyramid built at the necropolis of Saqqarah in the city of Memphis. By the Late Period (ca. 750-332 BCE) Imhotep had been deified as a god of medicine; there are numerous bronze statuettes dating from the Late and Greco-Roman periods (332 BCE-395 CE) showing him seated and reading from a papyrus roll. |
