Record Type: Person
Sunhye (Korean painter and monk, active mid-18th century)

Note: Sunhye was a monk-painter active in the Jeolla-do (province) region in the mid-eighteenth century. As a head monk-painter, he produced "Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva" at Borimsa (temple) in 1748 and "The Vulture Peak Assembly" at Daeheungsa in 1749. He also participated in the production of "Shakyamuni Buddha" for Geungnakbojeon (hall) at Juklimsa, which was carried out under the leadership of Pilyeong. Sunhye's painting style is characterized by fluid lines and soft colors that show many of the typical characteristics of eighteenth-century Buddhist painting.
