Noailles, Marie-Laure de (French patron and painter, 1902-1970)

Note: Marie-Laure and her husband Charles, Vicomte de Noailles were important patrons of the avant-garde in 1920s France. Together they commissioned several large projects; films by Buñuel and Cocteau, and a villa designed by Robert Mallet-Stevens. They were important collectors and promoters of the work of modern painters and sculptors including Picasso, Dalí, Picabia, and Giacometti. Marie-Laure authored several books, some pseudonymously, and became a painter late in life, creating landscapes influenced by Surrealism. French art collector, patron.
