Note: Walsh joined the East India Company in 1742 and was sent to Madras. He was in England in 1747-1749, and was promoted to senior merchant. He was elected to the Royal Society in 1770. He was known for his study of electric fish, and corresponded with Benjamin Franklin on the subject.
