Altare Glasshouse (Italian glasshouse, probably founded 11th century)

Note: Glasshouse founded near Genoa probably in the 11th century but perhaps earlier. Little is known about the items it manufactured but it played an influential role in the history of European glass as its craftsmen were (from 1495) required to do a stint of work abroad. Some of the Altare craftsmen helped found glasshouses in France and the Netherlands.
