de Blois Wack, John J. (American stockbroker and rancher, 1902-1992)
|
Note: Son of the founder of Field & Stream magazine and a stockbroker, rancher and horseman. His early years were spent on the East Coast, where he was a partner in a Wall Street firm. He built a golf course, yacht club and airport in the Adirondacks before moving to Santa Barbara in 1930. He lived on Yolo Farm on the Hope Ranch there while operating a cattle ranch in Arizona. After service in the counterintelligence corps in World War II he began Yolo stable. One of his horses was the first American entry to win the Australian Jockey Club Derby. He also was a founder of the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara. |
