Alberdingk Thijm, Josephus Albertus (Dutch art historian, publisher, 1820-1889)
|
Note: Alberdingk Thijm promoted the Neo-Gothic style of art and architecture through his magazine, 'Dietsch Warande'. He was a self-taught expert on medeival art and was made professor of art history in 1876 at the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam. He is the author of 'On Composition in Art' (1857) and 'The Holy Line' (1858), both of which were influential for the Neo-Gothic movement. He published numerous articles of criticism of contemporary art in the magazines he published. |
