Yi Che-hyŏn (Korean painter and calligrapher, 1287-1367)
|
Note: The Goryeo-era painter, calligrapher, scholar, and official Yi Jehyeon demonstrated excellence in poetry, calligraphy, and painting. He was a remarkable writer, skilled at drafting diplomatic documents, and created many works of prose and poetry. He played a decisive role in the introduction to Korea of the Songxue style of Zhao Mengfu (1254-1322), changing the course of calligraphy in the late Goryeo period. He also exerted a significant influence on the calligraphy of members of the royal family, scholar-officials, and literati in the early Joseon period. Yi also introduced the style of the Li-Guo School to Korea. |
