Yi Am (Korean painter and calligrapher, 1507-1566)
|
Note: Noted as member of Korean royal family who specialized in animal and flower paintings. Yi Am was an early Joseon calligrapher and royal relative. He excelled at painting birds and animals and enjoyed an unrivaled position among painters of dogs for his cute and innocent depictions. Historical records state that he was also skilled at painting falcons, and a painting entitled "Falcon on a Perch" has survived. |
