Qing dynasty (Chinese dynasty, 1644-1912)
|
Note: Chinese dynasty of rulers, established by the Manchus, who had overthrown Ming rule. During the Qing dynasty, the population increased to 450 million and the territory of rule tripled. The Manchus expanded their territory to Tibet, Mongolia, Turkestan, and Nepal, and had pacified the population by giving former Ming officials employment. The 19th century, however, brought much unrest, rebellions, Opium Wars, famine, and governmental corruption. The Republican Revolution of 1911 ended the dynasty. |
