The firm initially consisted of a partnership between William Marsh and George Elward and operated as Elward & Marsh. In 1795 the partners were joined by Thomas Tatham and the firm became Elward, Marsh & Tatham From 1803 the firm was Marsh & Tatham, and in 1811 it became Tatham, Bailey & Saunders.
