Yi Yo (Korean painter and calligrapher, 1622-1658)

Note: Yi Yo was a painter and calligrapher born into the royal family in the mid-Joseon period. The mid-seventeenth century witnessed the peak of artistic activity by the royal family due to its heightened interest in painting and calligraphy. Yi Yo was an aficionado of the arts who excelled at poetry, calligraphy, and painting. He is credited with introducing landscape paintings in the style of Southern School of Painting, and he skillfully employed the Zhe School style of depicting figures. |
