Gyehan (Korean calligrapher and monk, active second half of 18th century to first half of 19th century)
|
Note: Gyehan was a monk-painter active in the end of the eighteenth century and the first half of the nineteenth. He inherited a painting legacy passed down through Imhan, Hayun, Suseong, and Jiyeon, all of whom worked mainly at Tongdosa (temple). He produced Buddhist paintings in collaboration with several senior monk-painters. Gyehan followed the painting style of Jiyeon and used clear and distinct colors. Among his notable works are "Portrait of Vinaya Master Jajang" and "Indra with Devas and Nāgas" at Tongdosa, both produced in 1804. |
