Fellowship of Saint Luke (Polish group of painters, active ca. 1925-1939)
|
Note: Polish group of painters that emerged from the studio of Tadeusz Pruszkowski at the School of Fine Arts (Sekola Sztuk Pieknych) in Warsaw. It was the first post-war group in Warsaw's largest art school. The fellowship, modelled after the medieval guilds, had 14 members, all pupils of Pruszkowski. The artistic character of the fellowship was heavily influenced by the personality of Pruszkowski, an admirer of Frans Hals and Diego Velázquez. The fellowship's first exhibition in Warsaw's Zacheta Gallery in 1928 was enthusiastically received by the critics, but later exhibitions met with increasing criticism. |
