D.A. Hoogendijk & Co. (Dutch art dealers, established 1928)

Note: Kunsthandel D.A. Hoogendijk & Co was from 1928 to 1967 registered with the Association of Dealers in Ancient Art (Heijbroek / Griensven of 2007, p. 301). Adriaan Venema wrote in his book "Art Trade in the Netherlands 1940-1945 (Arbeiderspers 1986) about the role played by the art trade in the sale of art at the German occupiers (TVNZ, February 8, 1988). Kunsthandel Hoogendijk belonged before the war to the top of the Amsterdam art dealers but fell far back after the war by the Van Meegeren affair (Hoogendijk sold the fake painting The Supper at Emmaus "by Vermeer by Han van Meegeren) Dirk Albert Hoogendijk, born in The hague in 1895, died in Bergen in 1975. |
