Yun Deokhui (Korean painter, 1685-1766)
|
Note: Korean literati painter was the son of Yun Tu-sŏ and a contemporary of Cho Yŏng-sŏk and Sim Sajŏng. He excelled at both studies of horses and representations of Daoist immortals. Yun Deokhui was a painter and literati active in the late Joseon Dynasty. Influenced by his father Yun Duseo (1668-1715), he was interested in a variety of themes, including landscape painting in the literati style of the Southern School of Painting, "true-view" landscape painting (jingyeong sansuhwa), genre painting, Buddhist and Daoist figure painting, and paintings of horses. He was particularly renowned for his paintings of horses and Daoist immortals. He passed down the profession of artist to his son Yun Yong (1708-1740) and served as a bridge in establishing three generations of literary painters. |
