Yun Tu-sŏ (Korean painter, 1668-1715)
|
Note: Korean painter's career spanned the mid- to late Chosŏn period. He studied the Confucian classics, military strategy, geography and astronomy and passed the civil service exam in 1693. Later he studied calligraphy with Yi Sŏ. He painted a variety of subjects and was stylistically adept, able to paint in both a conservative Chinese style derived from the Song and Yuan periods and a more progressive, realistic idiom related to the 'sirhak' ideas new to the era. |
