Note: Born in Amsterdam, he began his life as a seaman, and became a successful businessman selling marine salvage, then in the mining industry in Colorado, where he made his fortune. He built a large Beaux-Arts mansion in New York City at Madison Ave. and 37th Street, which now houses the Polish Consulate. His only child was Alice De Lamar, an arts patron. |
