Note: Married to Margaret Oates (1900-1974), they were philanthropists and community leaders in the cotton business. In 1939 they purchased a home on Park Ave, in Memphis, Tennessee and created extensive landscaped gardens that they bequeathed along with an art collection to the city of Memphis. Their former residence is now the Dixon Museum.
