Nieuwenhuys, Christianus Johannes (Belgian art dealer, 1799-1883)
|
Note: Often erroneously given (evidently first by the Metropolitan Museum) as Charles J. Nieuwenhuys. He was born in Mechelen, son of Lambert Jan. Also spelled Chrétien Jean Nieuwenhuys. He held a sale in London already in 1833, so he was presumably the one most active in that city. The London catalogues belonging to the Nieuwenhuys firm are at EBNP, and the address is given as No.14 Argyll St. in 1830 and 1832.
