Manufacture Royale des Vernis Martin (French manufactory, 18th century)
|
Note: Manufactory founded and run by descendents of the Martins, a Parisian family of tailors, who perfected a form of japanning based on copal resin. It comprised three separate workshps in Paris during the 18th century. The technique developed by the elder brothers was so successful that it was quickly imitated by numerous makers and was known generically as "vernis Martin." |
