Note: Born Richard St George Mansergh, the name of 'St George' was assumed on inheriting his maternal uncle's property, Richard Mansergh St George. He began his military career as an Ensign at the outbreak of the American Revolution. Known in portrait mourning the early death of his wife by her early death ("Colonel Richard St George Mansergh St George mourning his wife") was painted by Hugh Douglas. |
