Ives, Charles (American composer, 1874-1954)
|
Note: American composer is known for innovations that prefigured many of the later developments in music of the 20th century. Most of his compositions were written before 1915, and his works became known only in the late years of his life. He worked as an insurance clerk, founding his own partnership, which he headed from 1916 to 1930. In 1947 he received the Pulitzer Prize for his Third Symphony (The Camp Meeting; composed 1904-1911). |
