Askin, Arnold (American businessman and art collector, 1902-1982)
|
Note: Arnold Samuel Askin was a businessman (Askin Stores), philanthropist and collected art with his wife, the former Fannie Halff. The Askin collection consisted of 19th- and early 20th-century European paintings, sculpture, pastels and watercolors. The collection included, among others, work by Joan Miro, Edouard Vuillard, Eugène Boudin, Lyonel Feininger, Alfred Sisley, Honore Daumier, Kandinsky, Modigliani, and Degas. Askin was the founder and honorary president of New York Association for New Americans in 1948. The organization resettled victims of the holocaust and tens of thousands of displaced persons. Askin was chairman of the board of the Caramoor Center for Music and Art in Westchester County from 1977 to 1980 and president of Hillside Hospital. |
