They had five sons: Marshall Jewell, Murray Witherbee, Arthur Douglas, Pliney Jewell, and Geoffrey. He was affiliated with the lumber firm Dodge, Meigs & Company in New York City. He died at his country home in Simsbury, CT on October 17, 1896.
