Note: Wealthy and powerful cardinal, humanist at papal court. He bequeathed his library, which included many rare Classical texts, to St. Peter's and commissioned an extensive fresco cycle (now destroyed) of Famous Men. From stronghold at Monte Giordano (now Palazzo Taverna), the Orsini ruled the approaches from Rome to the Borgo of the Vatican. |
