Gobelins Silversmiths' Studio (French silversmiths' studio, part of the Gobelins, active 17th century)
|
Note: The Gobelins silversmiths' workshop was located on the great courtyard of the Hôtel des Gobelins. Among the artists active here were the following: Alexis Loir I and Claude de Villiers lodged at the Gobelins; Claude Ballin and Nicolas de Launay worked for Le Brun and were based at the Galeries du Louvre; Reni Cousinet, Girard Debonnaire, Jacques Dutel, Jean de Viaucourt, Madeleine Turgis (widow of Verbeck), and Frangois de Villiers also worked on silver furnishings. Most of the elaborate and massive works produced by Gobelins do not survive, but they are recorded in paintings, engravings, drawings and tapestries. |
