Yun Yong (Korean painter, 1708-1740)
|
Note: Yun Yong was a painter and literati active in the late Joseon period. His family produced three generations of literati artists: his grandfather Yun Duseo (1668-1715), his father Yun Deokhui (1685-1766), and Yun Yong himself. Yun Yong and his father both employed a realistic painting style that emphasized observation and sketching from nature, a family tradition inherited from Yun Duseo. They followed the style of landscape paintings featuring small, simplified depictions of persons, and adopted varied expressive modes for depicting trees that they learned from painting manuals. Yun Yong followed the trend of his day and broke away from the Zhe School of Painting to pursue landscape paintings in the style of the Southern School of Painting that emphasized sketching ideas. He also excelled in poetry and often added poems to his paintings and even produced albums combining paintings with poetry. |
