Maakestad, John Norris (American painter, pastelist, and sculptor, born 1928)
|
Note: John Norris Maakestad was born December 12, 1928, a descendant of Norwegian immigrants. He received his BA from St. Olaf College with double majors in Art and English in 1950. In 1955, he received his MFA from the University of Iowa with an emphasis in studio art and art history. He joined the faculty at St. Olaf College in 1956 teaching art and art history, with an eight-year commitment as chair of the department. In 1994 he retired from St. Olaf after 37 years of teaching. During his career, Maakestad received several grants including a Ford Foundation Grant for work in sculpture, a Lilly Grant for studies in Art and Theology and a Mellon Grant to study Flemish art in Europe. Maakestad makes his home near Northfield, Minnesota. |
